Mandeville is where the urban meets the natural. Founded in 1834 by the Marigny de Mandeville family of New Orleans, it developed early on as a lakeside summer resort for wealthy denizens of the Crescent City. These historic properties can still be found on Lakeshore Drive. In the 1950s, Mandeville was connected to the south shore of Lake Pontchartrain via the Causeway, the longest bridge in the world.
Things to do in
Mandeville offers a wide range of upscale amenities including fine dining establishments, shops and day spas, and tons of boutiques. At the edge of town, Fontainebleau State Park offers cabins and campsites with plenty of diversion for nature lovers. It also connects to the Tammany Trace, a leafy, 31-mile paved trail that locals frequently bike, run, and even horseback ride. Take a stroll, ride a bike, or walk your dog at the Lakefront, the paved path that fronts Lake Pontchartrain on Lakeshore Drive. Charter a boat, or rent a canoe or kayak the Lake or Cane Bayou. Tap your toes at the historic Dew Drop Jazz and Social Hall on Lamarque street. Swing by the Mandeville Trailhead for the latest cultural events. Go fishing at Sunset Point. Explore nature at the Northlake Nature Center.
